A New Light of Hope Hair Loss Research Shows in Its Treatments

You must know about different research and results about the hair loss treatment if you have the problem and you want a cure for that.

A new recent article at SF Gate tells the use of biotechnology in search of a new hair loss solution. Though hair loss is not a life threatening disease the sufferers know the best about its bad and dark side. If it happens in the young age it just becomes an element of assault and humiliation. Kaiser Permanente, dermatologist Paradi Mirmirani explains his practical experience, "I have tearful patients in my office many times a day. When they lose their hair, they feel like they’ve lost their identity."

A Multibillion Dollar Industry

Most health insurance companies are reluctant to make policy on hair loss and not willing to provide the policy holders with support for hair loss treatment, individuals are willing to pay of their own. Now it has become a lucrative industry with a transaction of over a billion a year on hair loss drugs and transplants. This huge amount motivates the pharmaceutical companies and academic researchers to work on for further effective treatment solutions.

They are now so advanced and well-equipped with high-tech tools that it is a wonder. It includes genome studies, stem cell stimulation, gene therapy, hair cloning (a type of tissue engineering) and even robotics.

Till now there are only two drugs for hair loss treatment approved by both the Food and Drug Administration and The American Hair Loss Association. Those are Merck’s Propecia and Johnson & Johnson’s Rogaine (generic name minoxidil). Many are companies are also trying to develop and working extensively on the number of effective hair loss treatment using drugs for this purpose. They are working as well on a few undertakings such as improving transplants and cultivating hair follicles to increase hair growth rate.

Drugs that are under Development

Pfizer, Inc is working on the development of a drug that works the same way as Rogaine for topical use.

Pfizer is also working on another hair loss treatment using drug, which will work similarly as the effect of thyroid hormones.

AndroScience Corp. is working on a drug that degrades cell receptors for dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone that stops hair follicles from producing new hairs.

Transplant Progress

Restoration Robotics is developing surgical equipment that would allow surgeons to perform faster and cheaper transplants.

Follicle Cultivation

Follica Inc. is working on developing methods for generating new hair follicles, which are currently seen as high risk and are in very primary stages of hair loss treatment.

Aderans Research Institute is looking at ways to multiply key cells from the scalp, which if injected or seeded into the scalp would generate new follicles.

The promise for better solutions to hair loss make many hair loss sufferers feel hopeful and assured that in the near future there will be more choices and better hair loss treatment.
